Manama: Nebras Taleb, Chief Executive Officer of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons, met with representatives of labour-sending embassies and consulates in the Kingdom of Bahrain, held as part of the LMRA Majlis to mark International Workers' Day.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Taleb emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation with all stakeholders to support a fair and balanced labour environment. He highlighted the key role played by embassies and consulates of labour-sending countries in this regard.
The meeting discussed means to enhance coordination in labour-related matters, including raising workers' awareness of laws and regulations, ensuring compliance, and verifying that economic activities are conducted following valid work permits.
The CEO highlighted that Bahrain continues to develop its labour environment in line with international best practices, supported by a comprehensive legislative and regulatory framework. He underlined the importance of diplomatic missions in supporting government efforts to create a work environment that serves the interests of all parties.
Taleb also reviewed key initiatives, including the Wage Protection System, which requires employers to pay workers electronically through the system, helping to safeguard rights, ensure timely payment, and reduce wage-related disputes.
He also highlighted the initiative to issue International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs) for all incoming workers upon arrival at Bahrain International Airport, or when renewing a work permit if one is not already in place. This initiative facilitates electronic wage payments and supports workers' integration into the financial system.
The CEO commended the constructive cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and its support for Bahrain's efforts to regulate the labour market and protect workers' rights. He also thanked the embassies and consulates for their active role in strengthening communication and contributing to efforts to maintain a safe and balanced work environment for all.
