Justice Minister praises applying corrective justice for children as new advanced phase

Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, has affirmed that putting the Corrective Justice Law for Children and Their Protection from Maltreatment into force on August 18 will mark the beginning of a new and advanced phase in upgrading the corrective system for children. He added the move reflects the enlightened vision and reform approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments commended the great support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the law to achieve the corrective justice for children and protect them from abuse. He said the law has provided a system of integrated tracks for children in cases their behavior or the surrounding circumstances pose a danger to them. He noted that the law also included additional and alternative corrective procedures that are consistent with the children’s needs to rehabilitate and integrate them into the community by providing a supportive environment to care for the children and adjust their behavior through boosting joint responsibility with the family.

The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments pointed out that one of the most fundamental issues included in the law is the social report of the child, which will be prepared by specialists in the psychological and social fields.

He thanked the Ministry of Works, Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning for its role in preparing the corrective justice courts for children. He also praised the efforts of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Public Prosecution in ensuring success of the project.
