Jordan elected chair of AUR Board of Directors-ARC

Arab Union of Railways (AUR) concluded its 38th session and its 35th General Assembly meeting, which were held in Syrian capital, Damascus, with participation of 9 Arab countries after an 11-year hiatus. During the union's extraordinary session, a new board of directors was elected and Jordan won chairmanship of the AUR's Board of Directors, represented by Director General of Aqaba Railway Corporation (ARC), Yasser Krishan. According to an ARC statement on Thursday, Krishan expressed Jordan's "full" support for the AUR's efforts and stressed importance of holding its conference in realizing hopes of Arab railway networks. He noted "large" Arab projects will hopefully be implemented in the field of Arab railway linkage, especially connecting Jordan, Syria, Iraq and the Arab Gulf region. Jordan, he noted, pays attention and care to the railway transport sector to benefit from its multiple and varied privileges, especially in light of the world's current "remarkable" economic transformations and the challenges of globalization and economic openness. Jordan was one of the first countries to join Arab Union of Railways, and participated in drafting and signing International Railways Agreement in Arab Mashreq region, the statement said.
