Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain, The Arab Republic of Egypt, The Republic of Indonesia, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, The Federal Republic of Nigeria, The State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Trkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, have issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's recent approval of a declaration calling for the imposition of what is termed as "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.
According to Bahrain News Agency, these nations and organizations regard the Knesset's decision as a blatant and unacceptable violation of international law. They emphasize that this action constitutes a flagrant breach of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which collectively affirm the invalidity of measures legitimizing the occupation, such as settlement activities in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
The joint statement from these parties underscores that Israel holds no sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They stress that this unilateral move by Israel has no legal standing and cannot alter the legal status of these territories, particularly emphasizing East Jerusalem as an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Highlighting the ongoing tension in the region, the statement notes that such actions exacerbate the situation, especially in light of recent Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian crisis.
The group calls on the international community, including the Security Council and other relevant actors, to fulfill their legal and moral obligations. They urge for actions to halt Israel's illegal policies intended to impose a fait accompli by force, which undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace and the viability of a two-state solution.
Reaffirming their commitment to a two-state solution, the involved parties advocate for a resolution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. They express their steadfast support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
