Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has officially ratified and issued Law (16) of 2026, which introduces amendments to the Penal Code initially established by Decree-Law (15) of 1976. This legislative change comes after receiving the necessary approvals from both the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the newly ratified law requires individuals sentenced to custodial penalties to participate in rehabilitation and training programs located at Reform and Rehabilitation Centres. This modification also involves updating the language within the Penal Code, replacing the term "prison" with "Reform and Rehabilitation Centre."
The implementation of this law is entrusted to the Prime Minister and relevant ministers, who will enforce the provisions within their respective capacities. The law is set to take effect immediately, becoming enforceable the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.
