Higher Education Council, UNESCO discuss cooperation

Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), Deputy Chairperson of HEC’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, met here today the Director of Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems Division at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Borhene Chakroun, as part of her official visit to France.

During the meeting, issues of mutual interest that are related to the progress of the educational process at the higher education institutions, as well as the initiatives adopted by the Higher Education Council to encourage students and provide them with the opportunity to pursue their university studies were discussed.

Dr. Shaikha Rana reviewed the ongoing efforts to enhance the higher education sector in the kingdom, stressing that HEC will continue playing its role in achieving education-related sustainable development goals (SDGs).

She also reviewed with Borhene Chakroun the Higher Education Council’s future plans to discuss cooperation with the UNESCO, as well as its support and consultation regarding the establishment of the Isa Al-Kabeer University in Bahrain, which will include a number of new disciplines in the fields of artificial intelligence, nanotechnology and renewable technology.

Director of UNESCO’s Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems Division commended the efforts being exerted by the Higher Education Council and the educational sector in general in the kingdom.

He valued highly HEC’s keenness to achieve SDGs through its future plans and strategies.
