HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad directs to develop school gyms, implement sport school project

First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS), President of the General Sport Authority (GSA), President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, directed the joint committee between GSA and the Ministry of Education to study the possibility of developing the school gymnasiums in coordination with the Ministry of Works.

This is in implementation of the directives of the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to enable clubs and associations to use the school facilities.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa also directed to start the sport school project, stressing the need to focus through the sport school on complementarity between applying the sport activities and following up on health fitness and healthy nutrition for the students.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa was speaking as he received in his office at Al-Wadi Palace the Education Ministry Director General for School Affairs Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Ahmed, in the presence of GSA Vice-President Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Dr. Abdulrahman Askar and Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Services Kefaya Habib Al Anzour.

HH affirmed the great importance accorded to developing human beings under the comprehensive reform march led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He added, in this context the development programmes targeting all sport aspects reflect keenness on investing in the national potentials. He also asserted the need to continue developing the school sport programmes as a first step in exploring talents, honing them and supporting them to make future champions.

His Highness pointed out that the role of school sports goes beyond physical aspects and fitness, as sports contribute to improving academic performance levels by enhancing a sense of competitiveness and teamwork, as well as promoting mental health, a sense of organization and responsibility among students.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Juma’a, the Director General of Schools Affairs, expressed his thanks and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his interest and follow-up on aspects related to school sports, stressing that work will begin immediately to implement the directives related to opening the way for clubs and associations to use school facilities. He pointed out that the Bahraini Sports Federation for Schools and Universities, for which His Highness issued an edict to expand its scope to include schools last year, constitutes one of the foundations for developing school sports in a comprehensive manner.
