Baden-wrttemberg: A new report from the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Baden-Wrttemberg, Germany, revealed that the global number of electric vehicles rose by 30% over the past year, reaching 55.8 million. China leads with approximately 31.4 million electric vehicles, accounting for more than half of the global share.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the German research group's data, which includes fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, shows that the United States ranked second with 6.4 million vehicles, followed by Germany with 2.6 million. The United Kingdom and France each recorded around 2.1 million, while Norway surpassed the one million mark.
The growth comes despite a slowdown in annual increases, with 13.8 million new vehicles added in 2024 compared to 14.2 million in 2023. This suggests the market may be stabilising after years of strong growth. The figures highlight the ongoing global shift in the transport sector toward clean energy, with China maintaining its lead as the world's largest EV market.
