GCC Secretary General and Chinese Foreign Minister Discuss Gulf-China Relations Enhancement


Riyadh: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), hosted Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for strengthening Gulf-Chinese relations.



According to Bahrain News Agency, Albudaiwi expressed his appreciation for Wang Yi’s visit, highlighting its potential to bolster GCC-China relations, which are highly valued by both parties. Wang Yi acknowledged the ongoing efforts by the GCC General Secretariat to enhance the partnership between the two regions, emphasizing the mutual benefits.



The discussions included a review of the cooperation between the GCC and China, particularly within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for 2023-2027. Progress on the Free Trade Agreement negotiations was a key topic, with both sides underscoring the need to address and overcome existing obstacles to facilitate the agreement’s signing in the near future.



In addition to bilateral matters, regional and international issues were also addressed. The GCC Secretary General praised China’s supportive position on the Palestinian cause, which he noted contributes to the realization of the Palestinian people’s rights. He also acknowledged China’s role in promoting security and stability in the region. Wang Yi, in turn, expressed gratitude for the GCC states’ regional and international positions, highlighting their support for China on various mutual interests.
