Greece: Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), participated in the 1st Euro-Gulf Geopolitical and Investment Summit, organised by the Atlantic Council. The summit, held in Greece, was attended by several leaders and heads of state from the European Union (EU) with notable participation from key figures such as His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the summit emphasized the importance of enhancing regional and international cooperation, aiming to bolster security and stability on both regional and global fronts. It also highlighted efforts to strengthen political and economic cooperation between GCC states and Europe, with both sides seeking to advance relations toward broader horizons. Al Budaiwi noted the impact of conflicts extending to various sectors such as energy security and maritime navigation. He stressed that Gulf security is a shared international interest.
Al Budaiwi stated that the GCC states have evolved beyond being mere energy suppliers. They have become global investors and technological hubs, with significant developments in electrical interconnection and renewable energy fields. He also highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in maintaining security and stability, advocating for a comprehensive approach that respects state sovereignty and fosters dialogue.
Addressing regional and global security challenges, Al Budaiwi called for broader international cooperation and strategic partnerships. He emphasized adherence to international law and the responsible use of modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The GCC countries are investing in technologies to enhance security, including cyber capabilities and digital security, reflecting a shift in security dimensions that now include technological and economic aspects.
Al Budaiwi reiterated the GCC's commitment to working with regional and international partners to advance security and prosperity. He underscored the importance of the GCC-EU strategic partnership, particularly in areas such as maritime security and cybersecurity, and praised the landmark GCC-EU Regional Security Dialogue anticipated in 2024.
