GCC and Jordanian Foreign Ministers Engage in Virtual Discussions with Russia’s Sergey Lavrov

Manama: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's current presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired a virtual meeting bringing together the foreign ministers of the GCC states and Jordan with Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The meeting was also attended by Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the talks focused on the latest regional developments, including the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on GCC countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the resulting significant loss of life and damage to civilian property and infrastructure.

The ministers also discussed the impact of restrictions on international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy security, food supplies, and global trade. They underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation at the United Nations Security Council, in light of Bahrain's non-permanent membership for the 2026-2027 term and Russia's status as a permanent member.
