Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, held a meeting with Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, during his official visit to Bahrain. The meeting underscored the longstanding relations between the two countries and explored avenues for enhancing cooperation across political, economic, commercial, and development sectors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani welcomed Dr. Kombos and his delegation, expressing Bahrain’s commitment to advancing bilateral ties and exploring opportunities that serve the interests of both nations and their people. Dr. Kombos, in turn, praised the close relations and joint efforts to strengthen cooperation, reiterating Cyprus’ commitment to enhancing economic, commercial, and investment partnerships.
The discussions also included Cyprus’ solidarity with Bahrain regarding recent Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Dr. Kombos conveyed congratulations to Bahrain on its diplomatic success with the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 and its active participation in international discussions on regional issues.
Both sides reviewed areas of joint cooperation, as outlined in agreements signed during the visit of President Nikos Christodoulides to Bahrain in January. The dialogue emphasized enhancing diplomatic coordination between Bahrain’s GCC presidency and Cyprus’ EU Council presidency, aiming to fortify partnerships for peace, security, and prosperity.
Regional security developments were a key focus, particularly the ongoing Iranian aggression against GCC states and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The ministers stressed the need for collaborative efforts to halt such attacks and ensure the freedom of maritime navigation, aligning with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
The meeting featured participation from high-ranking officials from both countries, including Bahraini and Cypriot ambassadors and diplomats, reflecting the importance of these talks in shaping the future of Bahrain-Cyprus relations.
