Foreign Minister Praises Supreme Council for Women’s Impact on Bahraini Women’s Progress

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, praised the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) for its significant achievements over the past 24 years. He acknowledged the council's efforts in advancing the rights of Bahraini women and enhancing their leadership roles in political, diplomatic, and economic spheres, in alignment with the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister extended congratulations to His Majesty the King; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the SCW, on the 24th anniversary of the council's inception. He lauded the SCW as a national institution that has bolstered women's presence and participation in Bahrain's national achievements.

Al Zayani highlighted the establishment of the SCW as a pivotal moment in Bahrain's national achievements concerning rights and development. He noted that it was founded on principles of justice, equal opportunities, and gender balance, supported by a legislative framework and modern policies. These efforts align with the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, the National Human Rights Plan, and Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, along with international conventions such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

He expressed his gratitude for the SCW's leadership under HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, which has elevated the status of Bahraini women both locally and globally. He recognized the council's initiatives that have enriched political and democratic life and supported economic and social development, enhancing cooperation across government, civil society, and the private sector.

The minister also underscored the contributions of female diplomats in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bahraini embassies and consulates, where they hold leadership roles. He expressed confidence in their important role during Bahrain's upcoming tenure in the UN Security Council for 2026-2027 and the UN Women Executive Board for 2026-2028, which will further Bahrain's contributions as a partner in global peace, security, and sustainable development.

Minister Al Zayani reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to advancing Bahraini women from empowerment to leadership under the guidance of His Majesty the King, the support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the SCW's oversight. He highlighted the launch of the third edition of the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment in collaboration with UN Women, reinforcing Bahrain's role as a national model and a global partner in fostering peace, security, and prosperity.
