Manama: Marking the International Day of Peace, observed under the theme "Act Now for a Peaceful World" and coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, emphasized Bahrain's ongoing commitment to a foreign policy centered on peace, dialogue, and international solidarity. This commitment is aimed at promoting security, stability, coexistence, and sustainable prosperity under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in the government's policy, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to consolidate peace diplomacy, understanding, and global partnership for the benefit of all. He highlighted Bahrain's dedication to enhancing cooperation on both regional and global levels, in adherence to international law and the UN Charter. As Bahrain prepares to chair the upcoming GCC Summit, it places priority on Gulf Cooperation Council integration while also supporting the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as key partners in promoting peace and regional security.
The Foreign Minister underscored the significance of the Comprehensive Security and Prosperity Agreement signed in Washington in 2023 between Bahrain, the United States, and the United Kingdom. This agreement marks a milestone in fostering peace, stability, and development at regional and international levels, ensuring the safety of maritime and air navigation, and securing global energy and trade supplies.
He further noted Bahrain's partnership with the UN, including the 2025-2029 Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework signed with 21 UN agencies, funds, and programs. Bahrain is poised to contribute effectively to global peace and security through its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2026-2027, focusing on areas such as human rights and sustainable development.
Dr. Al Zayani commended the humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives of His Majesty the King, such as the call for an international peace conference in the Middle East, achieving a just settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, a ceasefire in Gaza, and facilitating humanitarian aid. He reiterated Bahrain's policy of dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejection of interference in internal affairs.
The Foreign Minister also praised His Majesty the King's vision in promoting tolerance and intercultural dialogue. Initiatives such as the Bahrain Declaration on freedom of religion, the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance, and the UN's adoption of Bahrain's initiative for the International Day of Conscience were highlighted. Bahrain's role in hosting international conferences and presenting global awards that reinforce coexistence and serve global peace was also emphasized.
He confirmed Bahrain's commitment to its diplomatic approach within the framework of the Government Plan and Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030. The Kingdom remains dedicated to achievements in human rights, its role as a global center for dialogue and peaceful coexistence, and its position as a reliable partner in promoting international understanding and solidarity, aiming for a future founded on peace, mutual respect, security, and prosperity for all peoples.
