New york: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, on the sidelines of the UN Security Council meeting during China's presidency of the Council.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Bahrain and China, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. This cooperation aims to support mutual interests under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President Xi Jinping.
The ministers exchanged views on critical regional developments, particularly focusing on Iran's aggressive actions towards Bahrain and other GCC countries. They also addressed the implications of Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz on international navigation and the global economy. Efforts to maintain regional security and stability were discussed, along with the progress in US-Iran negotiations for a lasting and peaceful settlement to restore peace in the region.
The dialogue also explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation and coordination during their respective terms in the UN Security Council, focusing on regional and international issues. They reviewed various matters of mutual interest to both nations.
The meeting saw the presence of Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other accompanying delegates.
