Manama: The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed financial and sporting sanctions on the Argentinian Football Association (FA) and several players and team officials over incidents during FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, including the final against Spain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the committee fined the Argentinian FA USD 321,000 for several breaches, including team misconduct, discrimination and racist abuse, and violations relating to order and security. The team was also ordered to play its next two home matches with no more than 50% of stadium capacity, with USD 100,000 of the fine allocated to a plan to combat discrimination.
The sanctions include a 10-match suspension and USD 90,000 fine for Leandro Paredes, and a seven-match suspension and the same fine for Nahuel Molina. Thiago Almada was suspended for one match and fined USD 30,000, while team official Roberto Ayala was suspended for three matches and fined USD 30,000.
The committee also suspended Spanish player Gavi for one match and fined him USD 30,000, confirming that the suspensions will be served in the next matches of the relevant national teams.
FIFA said the parties concerned had been notified of the decisions, which remain subject to appeal under FIFA regulations.
