Manama: The Board of Directors of the FIBA Foundation convened its regular meeting, marking the conclusion of the FIBA Mid-Term Congress 2025, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The event saw extensive international participation, drawing representatives from national federations, senior officials, and notable sports figures.
According to Bahrain News Agency, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and a member of the FIBA Foundation Board of Directors, took part in the meeting. The session was chaired by Hamane Niang, Chairman of the Board, alongside Manuel V. Pangilinan, Vice-Chairman, and Andreas Zagklis, Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The board addressed a number of future projects and initiatives and reviewed significant achievements from the past year, with a focus on the Foundation's community and development programmes. During the meeting, board members praised Bahrain's increasing role in supporting the Foundation's mission and noted the high level of organisation at this year's FIBA Mid-Term Congress.
There was also recognition of the active contributions of HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali in advancing the Foundation's programmes, especially in supporting youth and community initiatives throughout the Middle East. Hosting the FIBA Foundation Board meeting in Bahrain underscores international acknowledgment of the Kingdom's capabilities as a regional hub for major events and its essential contribution to empowering sport in fulfilling its cultural, humanitarian, and developmental roles.
The FIBA Foundation acts as the social and cultural arm of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Established in 2008, it is responsible for preserving the cultural heritage of basketball while implementing development and humanitarian programmes that harness the sport as a tool for positive social change.
The Foundation manages the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, which contains FIBA's official headquarters, a cultural centre, and a permanent exhibition chronicling the history of the game. Its work is based on two main pillars: Basketball For Good and Basketball Heritage.
The Foundation's initiatives extend over 150 countries worldwide, benefiting more than 95,000 individuals annually through projects focused on education, health, gender equality, youth empowerment, and social inclusion, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
