London: Yaser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, met with Mete Coban, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy, to discuss cooperation in energy sustainability and environmental initiatives.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions centered around strengthening partnerships in sustainable energy and energy efficiency, as well as exchanging best practices in clean energy projects, including solar and wind power technologies. Both sides reviewed policies and strategies implemented in Bahrain and the United Kingdom aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing environmental sustainability.
Coban praised Bahrain's advancements in clean energy and stressed the significance of knowledge exchange between the two countries to support the transition to a renewable energy-driven sustainable economy. The discussions concluded with an agreement to continue coordination and joint efforts in developing initiatives that enhance resource efficiency and support environmental and economic goals.
During his visit, Minister Humaidan also met with David Reavley, CEO of UK-based company Solar Water, at the Embassy of Bahrain in London. Their discussions focused on potential collaboration in water desalination and resource sustainability. Humaidan provided insights into Bahrain's national plans and initiatives in renewable energy and energy efficiency, highlighting ongoing and future projects in these fields. The meeting also explored the use of environmentally friendly technologies in water desalination and addressed key areas of mutual interest in the electricity, water, and sustainable energy sectors.
Additionally, the minister engaged with a high-level delegation from Balaena, led by its CEO, Simon Gillett. Balaena is recognized globally for its work in water purification, freshwater extraction, and seawater and wastewater treatment, utilizing fully renewable and sustainable resources. The talks centered on potential cooperation in water purification and seawater treatment. Minister Humaidan commended Balaena's innovative engineering solutions to address water scarcity, particularly for islands and coastal communities, and both parties explored opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange in water desalination and resource sustainability.
