BSA Participates in Seminar on AI, Satellite Data in Disaster Management

Manama: Dr. Mohamed Ebrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in a seminar organised by Planet in partnership with the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC), focused on the application of artificial intelligence and satellite data in disaster management. It brought together experts and stakeholders to explore how emerging technologies can enhance early warning systems, accelerate damage assessments, and support more effective responses to natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, and earthquakes.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the event also highlighted international case studies demonstrating the practical use of satellite imagery and AI in real-time monitoring and post-disaster recovery efforts. The discussions focused on utilising cutting-edge solutions in disaster management, particularly the integration of artificial intelligence with satellite data to monitor environmental changes and detect disasters such as floods, wildfires, and earthquakes with high speed and accuracy.

Participants explored means to enhance response operations through the use of daily satellite imagery and AI-driven data analysis, enabling faster and more efficient assessments of ground resources. The seminar also highlighted successful international case studies, including the assessment of wildfire damage in Hawaii and flood impacts in Greece, using baseline mapping and advanced satellite monitoring data.

Dr. Al Aseeri described the seminar as an important platform for exchanging knowledge on innovative approaches to disaster management. He noted that space technologies and AI are playing a key role in accelerating decision-making and enhancing accuracy, which in turn helps save lives and protect infrastructure. He also underscored Bahrain's commitment to international cooperation, highlighting the Kingdom's efforts to work with global partners in building systems capable of addressing growing climate-related challenges.

He also underscored Bahrain's commitment to adopting innovative space-based technologies, including the development of early warning systems powered by AI-enhanced satellite image analysis. He noted ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with leading institutions in the sector, in support of national capacity-building, innovation, and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
