Manama: Egyptian citizens headed to the polls today, Monday, marking the first day of voting in the 2025 Senate elections. According to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), polling stations opened at 9:00 a.m. local time and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. over the course of two days. The voting process is being conducted under tight organisational and security arrangements to ensure smooth proceedings.
According to Bahrain News Agency, a total of 424 candidates are vying for seats under the individual candidacy system, including both independents and party-affiliated contenders. Meanwhile, one nationwide list, the "National List for Egypt", is competing in all four electoral districts allocated to the party-list system, fielding 200 candidates.
The number of eligible voters stands at around 69 million, according to the national electoral register.
