Manama: Lieutenant General Doctor Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), chaired the fifth meeting of the Society's Board of Directors for its 18th term. The meeting was attended by key members including Ali Murad, Deputy Chairman; Hassan Ali Juma, Financial Secretary; Mubarak Al Hadi, Secretary General; and several board members. Also present were Rana Yousef, Director of Administrative Affairs and Follow-up, and Zainab Zayer, Director of Financial Affairs.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah commended the efforts to support the Society's mission and emphasized the importance of developing humanitarian programs, encouraging volunteer work, and preparing young people for active roles in the Society's activities. The Board discussed several agenda items, including proposed amendments to the Society's Articles of Association, which will be presented at the General Assembly meeting in March 2027. The Board was also briefed on activities and events from January to August 2026.
The meeting reviewed plans for GCC Red Crescent Day, observed on October 23, and discussed a collaboration with the Ministry of Education to deliver an awareness program in schools and universities. Additionally, the Board discussed hosting a training course on climate change and environmental sanitation in December 2026, in cooperation with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation. Efforts to engage youth through initiatives like the Friends of the Red Crescent and the Youth Committee were also reviewed.
As part of these efforts, the Board considered a new membership admission process requiring applicants to participate in selected workshops before approval. This process aims to introduce prospective members to humanitarian principles and prepare them for meaningful participation. The Board also approved a proposal to honor long-serving members in December 2026, coinciding with International Volunteer Day and Bahrain's National Day celebrations.
Mubarak Al Hadi, BRCS Secretary General, stated that the Society is moving forward with plans to advance humanitarian action and improve program effectiveness. Engaging youth is a key priority, essential for sustaining volunteer work and bringing fresh perspectives to the mission. The focus will be on training and awareness programs, aiming to nurture a generation ready to support the community.
