Manama: Isa Al Shaiji, President of the Bahraini Journalists Association (BJA) and Editor-in-Chief of Al Ayam newspaper, praised His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's speech during the inauguration of the fourth session of the sixth legislative term, which highlighted legislative progress and the nearing completion of amendments to the Press, Printing and Publishing Law.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Shaiji emphasized the King's vision regarding freedom of opinion and expression and the national media's role in promoting transparency and responsibility. He noted the national press's development under the King's leadership, which has been supported by the National Action Charter. This support has expanded press freedoms, enhanced Bahrain's regional and international standing, and facilitated adaptation to digital and technological advances.
Al Shaiji expressed gratitude towards His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for backing the legislative amendments and bolstering the role of the national press within a secure and free environment.
He concluded by stating that the amendments currently under review by the Shura Council aim to modernize media legislation, uphold constitutional protections for freedom of expression, and equip the national media to operate responsibly, thereby ensuring its continued contribution to sustainable national development.
