Manama: Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has lauded Bahrain's role as a global leader in promoting tolerance, religious and cultural dialogue, and peaceful coexistence. He emphasized the Kingdom's status as a model of civilization in embracing religious and cultural diversity, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister's remarks came on the occasion of the International Day of Living Together in Peace, observed on May 16, under the theme "Building Trust through Dialogue, Inclusion, and Reconciliation." Dr Al Zayani praised His Majesty's vision and the government's policies that uphold human rights and dignity, reinforcing national unity and social cohesion. He also highlighted the efforts of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance in promoting peace and intercultural understanding to support inclusive, peaceful societies.
Dr Al Zayani noted that celebrating this day during the "Year of Isa Al Kabeer," which honors His Highness Isa Al Kabeer, Ruler of Bahrain, coincides with Bahrain's recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records for its high density of places of worship. This, he stated, is a testament to Bahrain's rich historical and cultural heritage.
The minister commended Bahrain's royal initiatives in hosting international conferences for interfaith dialogue, establishing the Royal Humanitarian Foundation, launching global awards for coexistence, and supporting the empowerment of women and youth. He also mentioned the Kingdom's efforts in advocating for an international convention against hate speech.
Dr Al Zayani affirmed Bahrain's commitment to promoting a culture of peace through its diplomatic efforts, including its upcoming non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for 2026-2027. He pointed to Bahrain's initiatives in condemning Iran's actions in the region, as reflected in various international resolutions.
He criticized Iran's actions in the Gulf and Arab states as violations of international law, emphasizing the threat they pose to human rights and the principles of peaceful coexistence. He underscored Bahrain's commitment to non-aggression and cooperation with neighboring countries.
Additionally, Dr Al Zayani praised the national significance of engagement between the Minister of Interior and citizens, which reinforced values of good citizenship and loyalty. He highlighted the effectiveness of Bahrain's security services in thwarting threats linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
