Bahraini Farmers’ Market Promotes Local Agriculture and Food Security

Manama: The Bahraini Farmers' Market at the Botanical Garden in Budaiya is welcoming visitors every Saturday until 14 February, underscoring its importance as a national initiative to support Bahrain's agricultural sector and food security goals.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the market is organized by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture in collaboration with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and is supported by the private sector. It serves as a direct platform for farmers to connect with consumers, enhancing local production and maintaining product quality while reducing costs and boosting consumer trust in Bahraini produce.

This season, 33 Bahraini farmers are participating, offering over 100 varieties of fresh vegetables and fruits directly from farm to consumer. This setup not only increases farmers' incomes but also encourages the expansion of production.

In addition to its commercial role, the market acts as a developmental and awareness platform. It promotes sustainable agriculture, responsible consumption, and environmental protection. The market also showcases the contributions of national talents, with significant participation from Bahraini women and youth, and supports entrepreneurship through spaces dedicated to agricultural and artisanal projects.

The market's increasing public turnout reflects a growing awareness of the importance and quality of local products as reliable and sustainable food sources.

The ongoing efforts to organize the Bahraini Farmers' Market highlight the Ministry's commitment, in cooperation with national partners and the private sector, to strengthen local production, enhance the competitiveness of national products, and build a sustainable food system that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and Bahrain's food security strategy.
