Manama: The Equal Opportunities Committee at the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) held its third meeting of the year, chaired by Shaikha Hessa bint Ali Al Khalifa. The Committee reviewed initiatives aimed at promoting equal opportunities and supporting women's participation in the space sector and in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
According to Bahrain News Agency, as part of preparations to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the Committee affirmed the Agency's commitment to highlighting the achievements and valuable contributions of Bahraini women, as well as enhancing the role of national institutions in supporting and empowering women, in line with the objectives and aspirations of the SCW.
During the meeting, the Committee announced the launch of a pioneering initiative, the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain, scheduled to be implemented this year. The BSA will contribute to the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of the SCW through this initiative, which will coincide with the 'Year of Isa Al Kabeer'. In its first edition, the initiative will target young women in STEM fields, reaffirming the Agency's role as an active partner in advancing the empowerment of Bahraini women.
The initiative aims to introduce participants to the space sector and areas of science and technology, develop their scientific and leadership skills, and encourage them to explore career pathways in these sectors. It will contribute to preparing a new generation of qualified Bahraini women capable of contributing to the future of the national space sector.
The initiative reflects the BSA's steadfast commitment to supporting the empowerment of Bahraini women, enhancing their presence in scientific and technological domains, and contributing to the Kingdom of Bahrain's goals of building a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
