Manama: A proposal submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation at the 12th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians was selected as the topic for an Unconference session scheduled for Saturday. The proposal, entitled "When Maritime Corridors Become a Human Rights Issue: The Role of Young Parliamentarians in Protecting Global Energy Security", received the highest percentage of votes from participants.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, Member of the Council of Representatives, member of the IPU Bureau of Young Parliamentarians and representative of the Arab Group, will present the proposal on behalf of Bahrain and moderate the session. The proposal will address key issues related to the safety of international maritime corridors and their importance to global economic stability, energy and trade flows, and supply chains, which directly affect communities and regional security and stability.
The session will discuss the role of young parliamentarians in enhancing international cooperation to protect maritime corridors and supporting legislation and policies that ensure energy supply security and the stability of global trade, contributing to international peace and security and mitigating the humanitarian impact of crises.
Bahrain's proposal was selected following competition with proposals from Canada, Germany and Malta, marking the third consecutive year that a proposal from the Kingdom has been selected. This reflects Bahrain's continued active parliamentary participation and the relevance of the topics it presents at the conference. The conference is being held from September 4-6 under the theme "Reclaiming Human Rights, Justice and Dignity for All in Turbulent Times".
