Bahrain outlines preparations for 2022 Transforming Education Summit

A delegation representing the Ministry of Education held a webinar with UN officials and discussed aspects of joint cooperation to support Bahrain’s efforts, ahead of the 2022 Transforming Education Summit.

The ministry’s delegation was led by Dr. Samah Mohammed Al Ajjawi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Policies and Learning, National Coordinator in charge of the national consultations, in preparations for the upcoming summit.

The webinar was also attended by officials representing the United Nations and its agencies, including the UNESCO,UNICEF, UNIDO and the International Labour Organisation.

The national consultations set to be held this month, which represents the first step, will be followed by a preparatory meeting in June 2022, ahead of the Transforming Education Summit, scheduled to be held in September in New York, the USA.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres directed to harness efforts and step up solidarity to explore tangible solutions to compensate for the educational wastage due to the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to reimagine the future of education, to achieve the sustainable development goals related to education by 2030.

Bahrain’s national consultations focus mainly on four key components which are as follows:

-Ensure that the impact of the disruption to the education process caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is completely overcome.

-Identify the main strategic shifts and levers in place to reimagine education for the twenty-first century.

-Accelerate progress towards shared education goals, review national goals and standards for education,

-Ensure enhanced and sustainable public funding for education; In addition to addressing the results and expected outputs of these consultations.

It was emphasized that these consultations should include ministries in charge of education and lifelong learning, youth and gender equality, health, labour, environment, trade, finance, planning and communications, and UNESCO-affiliated schools.

NGOs focused on youth, civil society institutions such as unions, parliamentarians, the private sector, universities, research institutes and experts, the local donor groups for education, as well as national councils, youth, teachers and parents, among others, will also be included.
