Bahrain Marks World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with Strong Commitment to Combat Human Trafficking

Manama: Marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Bahrain affirmed its firm commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting human rights. Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain highlighted the strides Bahrain has made in this area, emphasizing the role of the Public Prosecution in prosecuting trafficking crimes and safeguarding victims.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Buainain noted that Bahrain was among the first countries in the region to establish a specialized unit to handle trafficking cases, demonstrating a clear understanding of the complexity and gravity of such offences. He emphasized Bahrain's integrated national approach, led by the National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons (NCCTIPs), which coordinates efforts among various government entities to enhance effectiveness.

Dr. Al Buainain further attributed Bahrain's achievements in combating trafficking to the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Their leadership has been instrumental in strengthening the justice system and promoting human dignity, contributing to Bahrain's top-tier ranking in the US Department of State's annual Trafficking in Persons Report for several consecutive years.

The Public Prosecution is also active in international cooperation, legal reform, and capacity building. Dr. Al Buainain stressed the importance of raising public awareness and building societal resilience, noting that prevention begins with education and informed communities. He concluded by reaffirming the Public Prosecution's commitment to early detection, victim protection, and collaboration with national and international partners to uphold justice and combat this global crime.
