Manama:Hala Ramzy Fayez, a member of Bahrain's Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Division delegation, took part in a Bureau of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security meeting during the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The assembly was held in the United Republic of Tanzania from October 5 to 9.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the committee's efforts in peace and security, as well as discussing how to implement the IPU Strategy 2027-2031. This included setting objectives and priorities and aligning the committee's work with the new strategy.
Participants also explored proposed areas of work and cross-cutting issues, specifically the governance of artificial intelligence in the context of peace and security. Emerging security challenges were addressed to guide future initiatives, including the creation of a resource for parliamentarians to handle these challenges.
The bureau additionally discussed upcoming activities and events to be organized at future General Assemblies. A resolution concerning the enhancement of maritime security and the protection of critical infrastructure during conflicts was also examined, highlighting the role of parliaments in securing international navigation and maintaining global economic stability.
