Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Director General of Bilateral Relations, Shaikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Khalifa, and U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker led the fifth Kingdom of Bahrain-U.S. Strategic Dialogue in Manama on January 26, 2026. The dialogue underscores the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations, emphasizing their commitment to advancing peace, enhancing regional and maritime security, and expanding economic opportunities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the dialogue highlighted the progress made through the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA) and the visit of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the United States in July 2025. Under Secretary Hooker praised the Bahrain-U.S. partnership as a model for addressing regional and global challenges and congratulated Bahrain on its non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.
The discussions included shared strategic priorities, such as the Abraham Accords, Iran, Yemen, Syria, and maritime security. Cooperation in counterterrorism, law enforcement, and border security was addressed, focusing on confronting evolving security challenges like unmanned aircraft systems. Both sides highlighted the progress since the signing of the Enhanced Border Security Agreement in September 2025, which aims to safeguard both nations and deter illegal activities.
Economic and commercial ties between Bahrain and the United States continue to expand, fostering collaboration in emerging technology and generating economic growth. In July 2025, Bahrain announced commitments to invest over $17 billion in new commercial deals, partnering with U.S. technology leaders and exploring peaceful nuclear cooperation.
The signing of the Critical Minerals Framework was celebrated, aiming to strengthen supply chains and accelerate the secure supply of critical minerals and rare earths. This initiative supports industries, including advanced technologies, in both countries.
As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence, it recognizes its longstanding partnership with Bahrain, dating back to the establishment of the American Mission Hospital in 1889. The Strategic Dialogue also included the signing of a Statement on Cooperation in Cultural Heritage to combat the criminal exploitation of the art and antiquities market.
Both nations committed to expanding educational and English language partnerships, workforce development, and internship programs. Opportunities to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary through exchange programs, cultural events, and sports diplomacy were also discussed. The Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States look forward to convening the next Strategic Dialogue in Washington.
