Bahrain and Egypt Forge Strategic MoU on Exhibitions During Crown Prince’s Visit

Cairo: During the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the Arab Republic of Egypt, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt. This agreement focuses on strategic cooperation between Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) and the Egypt Expo and Convention Authority (EECA).

According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hassan ElKhatib, Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade. Sara Ahmed Buhiji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Chairperson of the Board of EWB, emphasized that the MoU marks a pivotal moment in tourism and exhibition collaboration between the two nations.

The agreement is designed to elevate Bahrain and Egypt as prominent hubs for the exhibitions and conferences industry on both a regional and international scale. It aims to broaden economic and tourism partnerships, strengthening the shared interests of the two countries. Buhiji noted that the MoU bolsters Bahrain's ambition to be a leading centre for the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.

This MoU builds on a previous agreement from June 2022 during a royal visit of Bahrain to Egypt, focusing on enhancing cooperation in organizing exhibitions, international trade fairs, and commercial weeks. It also aims to exchange expertise, coordinate joint bids for international exhibitions, and provide support for joint events, thereby promoting commercial relations and attracting global events and investment opportunities in this sector.
