Manama: Bahrain actively participated in the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties (CSP) to the Chemical Weapons Convention in The Hague, with Brigadier Samir Ahmed Al Zayani leading the delegation. Representing the Bahrain Defence Force, Brigadier Al Zayani addressed the conference, emphasizing Bahrain's commitment to the Convention's objectives and international cooperation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Brigadier Al Zayani congratulated Ambassador Agustn V¡squez G³mez on his election as President of the 30th Session and expressed Bahrain's willingness to collaborate. He also acknowledged the contributions of Ambassador Almir €š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¡¬¦ ahovic during the previous session and extended congratulations to Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior Matter of Switzerland on her election as Director-General of the Organisation.
In his address, Brigadier Al Zayani praised the Technical Secretariat, led by Director-General Fernando Arias, for its work in strengthening the Convention's implementation. He highlighted the importance of enhanced coordination and shared responsibility, given the conference's occurrence amid international sensitivities, viewing it as an opportunity to reaffirm global commitment to preventing chemical weapons proliferation.
Brigadier Al Zayani outlined Bahrain's advancements since establishing the National Committee in 2011, focusing on controlled chemicals management and collaboration with the Technical Secretariat in verification and capacity-building. He emphasized Bahrain's efforts to improve partnerships with the industrial sector to ensure compliance with chemical safety standards.
Reaffirming Bahrain's stance, Brigadier Al Zayani advocated for eliminating weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, asserting that regional security depends on a collective commitment to international agreements. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the peaceful use of chemicals, training, verification, and sharing scientific and technical knowledge to enhance states' capabilities.
The Bahraini delegation reiterated the Kingdom's continued support for the Organisation and its dedication to efforts that uphold the Convention and promote international peace and security.
