Assistant Foreign Minister delivers lecture

The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al-Doseri, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has made great achievements in the field of human rights, thanks to the reform approach established by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

He highlighted the historical and cultural heritage that is based on values, principles and ideals represented in the constitution and advanced national laws, as well as its full commitment to all international charters and norms in the field of human rights.

This came during the virtual lecture presented by the Assistant Foreign Minister, entitled: (Arab and regional mechanisms regulating the protection of human rights), as part of the human rights programme for public security officers, launched by the Royal Academy of Police in cooperation and coordination with the Bahrain Institute for Political Development.

He noted that the Foreign Ministry’ activity in the field of human rights is a main pillar of the diplomacy and foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, indicating that human rights issues have become among the most important international policy issues that are controversial and prominent in regional and international forums, meetings and conferences.

He added that the positions of Bahrain in the field of human rights reflect the Kingdom’s established belief in the necessity of respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms as the foundation of individual dignity and the advancement of society, and a framework for achieving security, stability, coexistence and peace among all people.

He reviewed the concept of human rights and the international obligations of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights, and the characteristics of human rights that include civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, and the rights of solidarity and humanity.

He also highlighted the initiative of His Majesty the King to establish the Arab Court for Human Rights in November 2011, explaining that this vision came from the vision of His Majesty the King, which recognized the importance of developing Arab action in the field of human rights, at a time when the Arab world is in urgent need of promoting partnership and unity to complement the Arab mechanisms, especially the ones protecting human rights and the means for its development.

He concluded by lauding the role of regional human rights courts that were established alongside regional human rights commissions, noting that states have established, within the framework of regional human rights conventions and its protocols, judicial mechanisms that deal with cases related to violations of the rights and freedoms contained in those conventions.
