Al Azhar Grand Imam receives Education Minister, stresses readiness to develop educational cooperation with Bahrain

Manama, The Grand Imam Sheikh of Al Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, received at his residence today Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Noaimi, in the presence of President of the University of Bahrain (UoB) Dr. Jawaher Al Mudhahki and academics from the Abdullah bin Khalid College for Islamic Studies and the UoB’s Arab Language and Islamic Studies Department.

The Grand Imam Sheikh of Al Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders praised the kingdom’s civilization based on pluralism and the assimilation of all cultures. He stressed keenness of Al Azhar Mosque to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain in the educational and cultural field, stressing the importance of education in confronting the extremist ideology and promoting the values of citizenship, tolerance and coexistence.

The Education Minister praised the speech of Al Azhar Grand Imam and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders in the concluding session of Bahrain Dialogue Forum: East and West for Human Coexistence, which provided an in-depth vision of the significance of inter-faith dialogue and coexistence for the development of mankind.

The minister asserted the kingdom’s keenness, under the leadership of HM the King, to boost pluralism, religious freedom and human rights. He pointed out the Education Ministry’s development of the educational curricula according to those values. He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain took the lead in adopting a pioneering idea through the first human rights school experiment, the project of the school promoting citizenship and human rights, an experiment that won praise from UNESCO.

The Education Minister presented HE Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb with a gift, a model of Al-Hidaya Al-Khalifia School, which represents the first formal public school in Bahrain and the actual launch of modern education in the kingdom.
