Manama: Zain Bahrain, a telecommunications innovator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has launched the fifth edition of the National E-Waste Competition in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) and the Ministry of Education. The initiative underscores the company's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, aligning with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the competition encourages school students across the Kingdom to collect and responsibly dispose of electronic waste, promoting innovative recycling solutions. Amina Hamad Al Rumaihi, CEO of the SCE, emphasized the competition's role in raising environmental awareness among Bahraini students. She noted that the Council supports initiatives that foster a culture of sustainability and effective waste management from an early age.
Al Rumaihi further explained the significance of recycling in environmental protection and resource preservation by reducing pollution and minimizing waste impact. She highlighted electronic waste as particularly hazardous due to its toxic materials, which can damage ecosystems if not properly managed.
The National E-Waste Competition has achieved significant success in past editions. During its fourth edition, the initiative collected approximately 8.6 tonnes of electronic waste, reinforcing its status as a national platform for environmental awareness and community involvement. Now in its fifth year, the competition continues to expand, with participation from over 30 schools across the Kingdom, showcasing the strong enthusiasm of students in environmental preservation efforts.
