Manama: Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, announced the launch of the tender for the first phase of the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway development project, one of the Kingdom's key road projects aimed at continuing efforts to enhance infrastructure efficiency in support of Bahrain's comprehensive development plans under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister highlighted the attention of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, to strategic road network projects, including the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway development project. He noted the committee's commitment to ensuring the project is implemented according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency and within the approved timelines, contributing to improved traffic flow and supporting the advanced infrastructure of Bahrain's road network.
Al Hawaj said the development of Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway, which links the capital Manama with the industrial area in Sitra and extends to the Southern Governorate, will directly support the logistics sector and goods transportation movement, contributing to enhanced commercial and economic activity and facilitating traffic movement for road users. The minister said that the Ministry of Works is continuing studies and designs related to the subsequent phases to ensure the complete development of the highway in line with the comprehensive plan, noting the ongoing coordination among relevant government entities to implement the project according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
For his part, Shaikh Meshaal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, said the first phase of the project extends approximately two kilometres, beginning after the Nuwaidrat intersection and ending near Applied Science University. Shaikh Meshaal bin Mohammed noted that the phase includes the construction of a dual carriageway with four lanes in each direction, in addition to service roads on both sides to ensure smooth traffic flow for surrounding areas.
The undersecretary added that the construction works include excavation and backfilling works, advanced drainage networks equipped with pumping stations, underground utility ducts for services, improvement of supporting services, and the installation of all required signs and directional boards. Shaikh Meshaal bin Mohammed affirmed the ministry's commitment to implementing infrastructure projects according to the highest engineering standards and specifications, contributing to the sustainability of Bahrain's road network and achieving the project's objectives.
