Geneva: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced a significant decrease in global measles cases, with a reduction of 71% since 2000. This decrease is attributed to improved vaccination coverage, which has prevented an estimated 59 million deaths.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the WHO highlighted that while there was an 8% increase in estimated infections in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic levels, measles-related deaths have declined by 11%. The organisation underscored the critical role of vaccination programs in controlling the spread of measles and reducing mortality rates worldwide.
