WHO Director General Visits Halat Bu Maher Health Centre

Manama: Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), visited Halat Bu Maher Health Centre to review the Kingdom of Bahrain's primary healthcare system and advanced medical services.

According to Bahrain News Agency, he was briefed on the progress of the Choose Your Doctor programme in primary healthcare centres, which aligns with the National Health Plan (2016-2025). The programme aims to enhance institutional healthcare competitiveness and quality by allowing patients to select their family doctor, improving continuity of care, doctor-patient relationships, and early disease detection.

Dr. Ghebreyesus also reviewed urgent care services under the self-management project for primary healthcare centres. This initiative separates preventive and treatment services from urgent care, ensuring timely and appropriate medical attention within the primary healthcare framework.

The WHO Director General commended the Kingdom's initiatives to improve patient experience and enhance primary healthcare in line with global best practices. He noted that Bahrain's achievements reflect its commitment to high-quality, sustainable healthcare services that align with WHO objectives.
