The United States of America has welcomed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts and measures aimed at expanding the application of the provisions of the alternative sentencing law, following the issuance of Decree-Law 24 of 2021 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The Decree-Law stipulates that “the relevant authority at the Interior Ministry may request the executive judge to substitute the original penalty, before the beginning of its execution, by one or more of the alternative penalties set forth in Article (2) of this Law, provided that it would not pose a threat to public security, and that the convicted person must have paid all the financial liabilities handed down against them by a criminal court, unless it is impossible for them to pay.”
In this regard, the US Embassy in Bahrain tweeted: “The United States welcomes Bahrain’s expanded application of its alternative sentencing law.
The embassy also said in its tweet that “The United States supports the kingdom’s continuing efforts to strengthen its judicial processes.”
The expansion of the application of the alternative sentencing law consolidates the essence of the state of law and institutions in Bahrain, and represents a quantum leap in the reformation and rehabilitation system, which will reflect positively on the ground, making it a civilisational national project.
