University of Bahrain to host award laureate on Wednesday

The University of Bahrain will tomorrow host Nepalese Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit, winner of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity in its fifth session (2021-2022), at 10:00 AM at the E-e-learning center in Sakhir campus.

Ophthalmologist Professor Moamen Al-Rifi will moderate the session during which the laureate will be speaking about the new method he had devised for treating cataracts.

The Isa Award for Service to Humanity is conferred to those who work to change the world through their humanitarian initiatives and tireless to find creative and innovative solutions to humanitarian and social issues in order to improve the conditions of humanity.

Dr. Ruit has also developed a new lens which can be be implanted inside the eyeball and that could be produced at a much cheaper price than its counterparts.

The cheap lens enabled him perform cataract surgery in less than five minutes, during which he removes cataracts without stitches through small incisions and replaces them with a low-cost artificial lens.

He has so far succeeded in treating more than 120,000 patients for free without taking any money from his poor patients.
