UAE and USA Sign Joint Statement to Expedite Patent Grant Procedures

Geneva: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States of America have signed a Joint Statement of Intent to initiate a bilateral cooperation programme aimed at accelerating the patent granting procedures in the UAE. This agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) held in Geneva. According to Bahrain News Agency, the joint statement was signed by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism of the UAE and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The programme establishes collaborative mechanisms to acknowledge positive examination results issued by the USPTO for corresponding Emirati patent applications. This will be executed in accordance with applicable national laws. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, highlighted that this cooperation demonstrates the UAE's dedication to enhancing the competitiveness of its intellectual property ecosystem by adopting international best pr actices. The focus is on improving industrial property rights and developing patent registration procedures that align with the aspirations of innovators. The aim is to provide flexible and efficient services that foster an innovation-driven and entrepreneurial environment, thereby reinforcing the UAE's position as a regional hub for intellectual property rights protection.
