Twelve defendants, ten restaurants fined for violating COVID-19 precautionary measures

The Lower Criminal Court has imposed fines ranging from BD 1000 to BD 2000 on twelve defendants and ten restaurants for flouting COVID-19 precautionary measures during Eid Al-Fitr holiday. The total amount of fines imposed by the court was BD 34.000.

The Public Health Directorate reported the violations committed by the restaurants which allowed customers in and served them without verifying their vaccination against the novel coronavirus through BeAware Bahrain application. Moreover, they did not take the temperatures of the customers; and, therefore, the restaurants were closed administratively and an investigation was launched by the Public Prosecution.

The criminal responsibility was confirmed against the defendants who were referred to the specialized court which issued its afore-mentioned verdict.

It is worth noting that any violation of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) is punishable by the law with a sentence of up to three years in jail or a fine of no less than BD 1000, which could reach BD 10.000 for a natural person and BD 20.000 for a legal one.
