Manama: The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has announced a new regulation permitting Bahraini taxi drivers to allow first-degree relatives to operate as assistant drivers in the same vehicle. This change enables each taxi to have up to three authorised drivers, with the regulation taking effect from September 18.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Postal Affairs, stated that the measure is designed to ensure continuous taxi service, provide greater flexibility for citizens, and encourage greater family participation in the transportation sector. This step is expected to support service sustainability, improve availability to meet increasing demand, and enhance the overall experience for both residents and visitors.
The ministry has highlighted that operational standards and procedures will be in place to maintain service quality and organise the sector effectively. Licensed drivers are advised to consult the full requirements available on the ministry's website:.
