Manama: Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, paid a visit to the public bus depot, accompanied by the executive management of Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC). The visit focused on evaluating operational readiness, daily operations, and future plans aimed at transitioning to a more sustainable public transport system.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Undersecretary emphasized the ministry's dedication to further developing Bahrain's public transport system with the aim of enhancing its efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This development is in line with international best practices and aims to provide reliable services to the public.
Al Dhaen highlighted ongoing improvements in the network's performance and an increasing number of passengers, which reflects the sector's operational readiness and service reliability. She also reviewed plans for the introduction of electric buses as part of Bahrain's initiative to create an integrated, environmentally friendly transport system. This initiative supports the Kingdom's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
During the visit, BPTC outlined its plans to leverage the expertise of its UK-based parent company, Mobico Group, to introduce clean-vehicle technologies. This includes transitioning bus depots to electric operations, aligning with international best practices.
Robert Conway, General Manager of the BPTC, reiterated the company's commitment to collaborating with the ministry to support the rollout of electric buses, thereby further strengthening Bahrain's public transport network. BPTC currently operates a fleet of approximately 140 buses across 26 routes, serving over 650 bus stops, and has recorded more than 113 million passenger journeys since 2015.
