Transportation Minister Highlights Bahrain’s Advanced Meteorology and Early Warning Systems

Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain's advanced and integrated meteorological system, which supports climate forecast accuracy, maritime and air navigation safety, and key sectors, in line with the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed expressed pride in Bahrain's celebration of World Meteorological Day under the theme "At the frontline of climate action," coinciding with the successful launch of the Al Munther satellite. He noted the satellite's use of artificial intelligence to analyse satellite imagery, its advanced remote sensing capabilities, and its role in supporting national forecasting systems.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed also announced the ministry's completion of installing third-generation satellite image and data receivers, enhancing national capacity in line with international systems and standards.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed highlighted Bahrain's commitment to developing early warning systems and strengthening meteorological capabilities by adopting advanced forecasting technologies. He noted that these efforts aim to enhance disaster management, enable timely alerts, protect lives and property, and improve public safety and the security of maritime and air navigation, in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed emphasised the ministry's efforts to enhance collaboration and data exchange with national, regional, and international centres, and to invest in early warning systems that support a safer and more sustainable future. He underscored Bahrain's active membership in the World Meteorological Organisation since 1980 and its support for the "Early Warnings for All" initiative launched by the United Nations Secretary-General in 2022.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed underscored that the ministry continues to strengthen the national meteorological system through skilled national cadres, modern observation and visual weather systems, and data analysis tools. These measures, he said, ensure more accurate forecasting and faster response to climate shifts and hazardous weather, using safer, more effective procedures.
