Third Session of Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference Focuses on Women’s Role in Promoting Unity

Manama: Scholars and intellectuals gathered for the third session of the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference, under the theme "One Nation... One Shared Destiny." The session highlighted the significant role women play in Islamic dialogue, fostering understanding among different Islamic schools of thought, and countering efforts that exploit differences to create division.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the session was moderated by Dr. Rashid bin Ali Al Harthi, Dean of the College of Sharia Sciences in Oman. He emphasized the role of women as essential partners in societal development and advocates of tolerance and moderation. Dr. Mahmoud Alkhuzaee, President of Justice and Wisdom in the United States, stressed the importance of spreading a culture of dialogue and tolerance. He noted that empowering women benefits the entire community, referencing Khadijah bint Khuwaylid as an example of wisdom and faith.

Dr. Aisha Yousif Al Mannai from Hamad Bin Khalifa University highlighted that meaningful intra-Islamic dialogue requires active participation from both men and women. She stressed that societies cannot progress unless both share responsibilities in building and advancing communities. Dr. Al Mannai also pointed out the resilience of Palestinian women, demonstrating their role in preserving identity and reinforcing Islamic values.

Dr. Shaikha Maryam bint Hassan Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Women, discussed women's influence in fostering a culture of understanding from an early age. She emphasized the importance of instilling values of tolerance and openness, enhancing dialogue skills among younger generations, and respecting religious and sectarian diversity.

Dr. Safinaz Suleiman from the University of Wisconsin-Madison addressed challenges faced by Muslim communities in the West, highlighting the role of Islamic institutions in supporting them. She noted that leading Islamic institutions like Al Azhar can support through cultural exchange programmes and academic cooperation.

Dr. Nahla Al Saeedi, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, highlighted women's contributions to fostering dialogue. She cited historical examples like Aisha bint Abi Bakr, emphasizing the need for women to play active roles in bridging differences between Islamic sects.

Participants at the conference unanimously agreed that dialogue is essential for achieving social harmony and strengthening coexistence among Islamic schools of thought. They emphasized integrating women as key contributors to shaping future generations based on principles of tolerance and mutual understanding.
