The US, Norway And Britain Call For An Immediate Halt To The Fighting In Sudan

The United States, Norway and Britain called on both sides of the conflict in Sudan to immediately stop the fighting, in the wake of reports of widespread war crimes in the country.

In a joint statement issued by the US State Department, the three countries strongly condemned the current violence in Darfur, calling on both sides of the conflict to respect international humanitarian law to protect civilians.

The statement stressed the need to allow full access to conflict-affected areas in order for violations to be properly verified, and for life-saving humanitarian aid to reach survivors who desperately need it, calling for accountability for those responsible for “any atrocities against civilians, especially the targeting of humanitarian aid providers and medical personnel and other service providers.

It is noteworthy that Sudan has been witnessing, since mid-April, bloody armed confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, without the multiple ceasefire agreements contributing to calming the situation.
