Tender Board Secretary-General Highlights Bahrain’s Procurement Transparency at OECD Forum

Paris: Jamal Abdulaziz Al Alawi, Secretary-General of the Tender Board, participated as a keynote speaker in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) seminar on public sector integrity. The remote meeting brought together experts and decision-makers from various countries. According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Alawi highlighted Bahrain's experience in government procurement through the establishment of the Tender Board, underscoring its commitment to the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and fairness. He explained that all tenders are published electronically on the board's official website, ensuring equal opportunities and easy access to information for all suppliers and contractors. Bids are submitted electronically through the board's tendering system within specified deadlines, guaranteeing an organised and secure process. The Secretary-General also outlined key legal safeguards, including the monthly publication of award decisions, open access to information, and pub lic tender opening sessions, with results immediately posted on the board's website. Al Alawi emphasised the need for a strong framework combining best practices, regulations, and ethics to ensure integrity in procurement. He highlighted that tender evaluators must be certified by the board and staff must follow codes of conduct. He also noted that suppliers and contractors can appeal at any stage, with the board prioritising fair and thorough reviews. The Secretary-General underscored the Tender Board's commitment to ongoing engagement with global initiatives and leveraging successful experiences to uphold the highest standards of efficiency and quality in government procurement.
