Taiwan Rattled by 5.6 Magnitude Quake, No Reports of Damage

Taipei: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck just off the coast of Taiwan's northeastern county of Yilan, the island's weather administration reported, with no immediate reports of damage.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the quake briefly shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. The earthquake had a depth of 66.8 km (41.5 miles), as noted by the weather administration.

The fire department provided further details, stating that the quake's epicenter was located 16.9 km (10.5 miles) from the county government seat and occurred in coastal waters.

Taiwan is situated near the junction of two tectonic plates, making it susceptible to earthquakes.
