Sustainable Development Minister Al Khulaif Addresses High-Level Political Forum in New York

Amman: Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, participated in the ministerial segment opening of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaei, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, was also in attendance.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Al Khulaif delivered Bahrain's statement during the General Debate segment, emphasizing the Kingdom's commitment under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The statement detailed Bahrain's dedication to advancing national development plans aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It highlighted Bahrain's focus on four strategic pillars: human capital investment, cultural heritage preservation, economic diversification through innovation, and future readiness with policies across various sectors.

The statement addressed Bahrain's response to Iranian attacks on civilians and infrastructure, prioritizing citizen safety, healthcare service continuity, and asset protection, reaffirming a commitment to inclusivity. Despite challenges, Bahrain remains focused on maintaining and advancing its national achievements.

Bahrain's international engagement was underscored through its upcoming non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2026-2027, with a commitment to international peace, multilateral cooperation, and diplomatic solutions. The HLPF, convened under the theme of transformative action for sustainable development, featured the presentation of Bahrain's Third Voluntary National Review.

The HLPF serves as the United Nations' primary platform for reviewing the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It gathers global leaders to share experiences and best practices. The Ministerial Segment's opening included remarks by Ant³nio Guterres, Annalena Baerbock, and Lok Bahadur Thapa, highlighting the need for international cooperation to accelerate SDG progress amidst global challenges.
